SANGIOVESE
One of Italy's best known grape varieties, Sangiovese is found in nearly all of Tuscany's major wines. It is the base of Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Morellino di Scansano and as the Brunello clone it makes up 100% of Brunello di Montalcino. Sangioves is also found in the other central Italian regions and even as far South as Puglia. It is known for it's cherry fruit and gamey woodsy aromas as well as its trademark crisp acidity.

It's name is said to come from "Blood of Jove," though Sangiovese was grown before the Romans by the Etruscans. There are two main strains of Sangiovese. The first, Sangiovese Grosso is made up of the Brunello, Prugnolo Gentile and the Lamole clone of Greve in Chianti. Sangiovese Piccolo is the other strain which shows up in most other areas of Tuscany and the other regions of Italy.

Enjoy wine at OTTO in various ways:

  • The traditional quartino (250 ml or 1/3 bottle) or bottle of wine. We offer quartinos of wine at OTTO in order to give the wine by the bottle experience to our version of a wine by the glass experience.
  • Another way to enjoy wine is with our Antipasti/Wine tastings—including a selection of three meat, fish, or cheese paired with three different wines.
  • Or, create your own wine tasting with a sommelier by picking any three wines from our quartino list.
  • Also we now feature a weekly wine special on sunday's. We will be opening one bottle of wine that our Sommieler's has chosen to feature our diverse italian wine list. Quartino or taste options are limited.
